Quality Care

Immediate Goals

It is expected that the Child and Youth Care Work Certification Institute will make a significant contribution to the development of child care practice in Texas. To accomplish this, the Institute will:

  1. Provide on-going leadership, coordination, and planning for the development of a comprehensive certification and education system for child/youth care practitioners. The system integrates the needs of the diverse practice areas into a unified certification and education system.
  2. Sponsor research to determine the effectiveness and impact of the Institute's certification and education programs on the quality of care available to youth.
  3. Compile, refine and develop the competencies which describe the field of child care practice.
  4. Conduct testing programs to verify practitioner mastery of the identified knowledge and performance competencies for each certification level.
  5. Coordinate the on-going improvement of certification and education systems by incorporating the results of research into the development of improved standards for certification of practitioners and education programs.
  6. Collaborate with other groups developing certification, education, and practice standards to develop a unified national credentialing and education system.
  7. Support the development of scholarship and funding programs to increase access to quality training and education.
